A Legacy of Giving – It’s a Part of Who We Are

Longo’s Charitable Giving programs and the philanthropy of the Longo’s Family Charitable Foundation (LFCF) represent a legacy of commitment and investment in our communities that began in 1956. It started with our founders who believed in giving something, even when they had nothing to give. It’s simply about doing the right thing and helping families during their time of need.

Unique to Longo’s, our approach incorporates our values of inspiring healthy families and instilling a desire for life-long learning through our passion for family and love of food. We believe that family values are essential to community growth and by investing in and maintaining a leadership position of community involvement, we will help ensure that the health and well-being of our communities will be sustained for years to come.

Last year, Longo’s and the LFCF donated nearly $1.2 million to local charities, organizations and sponsored events. Our giving is focused on programs that target the good health of families and the benefits of fresh, healthy eating and we are committed to initiatives that Inspire Healthy Families.

Longo’s Focus Areas and Charitable Giving Programs

To complement our vision and our mission as a fresh food merchant, our focus is on three key areas:

Disease Prevention and Education for Families
Longo’s actively finds partners with organizations dedicated to helping families make better choices for a healthier lifestyle with a focus on good nutrition for disease prevention and education (i.e. Juvenile Diabetes, Heart and Stroke, Breast Cancer, Ovarian Cancer and local community hospitals).

Children and Youth
Longo’s partners with charities on focused initiatives that empower children and youth and offer the best opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential (i.e. ProAction, Longo’s Team Member First Program - see below, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Free the Children and HealthyFam).

Child Nutrition and Food Aid Programs for the Community
Longo’s is an active participant in child programs that target the benefits of eating a healthy, nutritious breakfast and programs that help the hungry in our communities (i.e. Breakfast for Learning, Second Harvest, Re-Fresh Foods, and local food banks).

We are unable to consider funding or support for the following:

  1. Individuals (we do, however, consider giving directly to organizations that help those individuals).
  2. Third Parties (we prefer to directly support the charity or organization rather than an event).
  3. Non-charitable organizations or events including employee recognition activities, professional seminars, workshops, and conferences).
  4. Political campaigns/candidates.
  5. Advocacy groups of a particular religious, social, political or economic point of view.
  6. Sports teams (please refer to our Longo’s Team Member First Program).
  7. We cannot permit solicitation or tagging on our property by any organization, for any purpose.

Longo’s Team Member First Program

Longo’s policy on sports team sponsorship is that we sponsor our employees first through our Team Members First program. We sponsor our team members or team member’s children who are involved in sports teams. If there are gaps in funding within our local neighborhoods, then we will consider a sports team sponsorship request from a non-team member.

Longo's Local Community Caring Program

At the local store level, Longo’s supports community events/programs and charitable causes that directly impact the communities in which our stores are located. All requests for local community donations must be submitted by filling out a Request for Support from Longo’s Local Community Caring Program application form  at least 4 weeks in advance of when the support is required. We ask that you submit your request to the Longo’s store nearest to where your event/program will take place or the community your cause will impact the most and that you do not ask more than one store to support your request. If your request is granted, we will contact you directly. Support will take the form of a Longo’s gift card that can be used for prizing, gift baskets or food required for your charitable event or cause. Donation requests for national events occurring in more than one community (i.e. walks, runs, etc.), must be submitted by filling out the Request for Support from Longo’s Corporate/Sponsorship Caring Program application detailed below.

Longo’s Corporate/Sponsorship Caring Program

At the corporate level, Longo’s supports the events/programs and causes of registered not-for-profit organizations that benefit multiple Longo’s communities or are national in scope, as well as sponsorship opportunities that align with our three main areas of focus.

Requests for corporate donations or sponsorships must be submitted by filling out the Request for Support from Longo’s Corporate/Sponsorship Caring Program application form . Due to budget limitations compared to the many number of requests, we regret that we are only able to fulfill some of the requests received. If your request is granted, you will be contacted directly. Please submit your request at least 6 weeks in advance of when the request is required.
